What it is

"No Such Thing" was John Mayer's debut single and the lead single from his first studio album, Room for Squares (2001). Co-written with Clay Cook, it criticizes pressure from schools and guidance counselors to follow a conventional path into college and a career, and urges listeners to do what they love instead.
