What it is

"Hier encore" is a 1964 song written by Charles Aznavour with music by Georges Garvarentz. The narrator, now older, looks back on youthful years spent chasing pleasure and reflects that the plans he made can no longer all be fulfilled, so the song becomes a reckoning with time and regret. Herbert Kretzmer's English adaptation, "Yesterday, When I Was Young," became a hit for Roy Clark in 1969.
