Solange lists her unsuccessful attempts to distract herself from a long-standing pain.
"Cranes in the Sky" is a mid-tempo soul ballad by Solange, released in October 2016 as the first single from her third album, A Seat at the Table. The song is about trying to escape an unaddressed sadness by distracting herself in various ways. She wrote it in 2008 in a Miami hotel over instrumentals from Raphael Saadiq, after the end of a long relationship.
