What it is
"Summertime" is the lead single from DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's fourth album, Homebase, released in May 1991. It is a laid-back look back at summers growing up in Philadelphia, with cookouts, cruising in cars and summer social life. Will Smith wrote the song in one sitting during a flight delay, and the track samples Kool & the Gang's "Summer Madness.
