What it is

"It Was a Very Good Year" was written by Ervin Drake in 1961 and first recorded by Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio. Frank Sinatra recorded it for his 1965 album September of My Years, with an orchestral arrangement by Gordon Jenkins, who won a Grammy for it. The narrator looks back on the relationships he had at different ages, and in later life reflects on his past as something that has aged well, like a fine wine.
