For everyone fighting an illness nobody can see 🌊
Lavigne wrote this during her long battle with Lyme disease, when she feared she might not survive.
"Head Above Water" is a 2018 power ballad by Avril Lavigne and the lead single from her sixth studio album of the same name. It is about her struggle with Lyme disease, which left her feeling close to death. The song describes that fight as drowning and draws on her faith for strength. She co-wrote it with Travis Clark and Stephan Moccio, starting it during a hard stretch of the illness.
