Listen to this when
ballad of a homeschooled girl
Social suicide? Nah, just Tuesday. 😬
Who it's for
Rodrigo turns the agony of awkward social moments, with a nod to her own homeschooled upbringing, into a loud, self-mocking pop punk song.
Cringing, anxious→Laughing at it, less alone
Feelings it meets
What it is
"ballad of a homeschooled girl" is the fifth track on Olivia Rodrigo's second album, GUTS, released September 8, 2023, co-written and produced by Dan Nigro. The song deals with social anxiety and embarrassment, recounting awkward moments at a party in a self-deprecating, darkly humorous way. It was inspired by Rodrigo being homeschooled as a teenager and missing a typical high school experience.
