Who it's for

Grief for a mentor, boss or family friend is often under-acknowledged, and this song treats it as real grief, which validates people who feel they aren't 'allowed' to mourn someone outside their family.

What it is

"Visiting Hours" is an Ed Sheeran song from his fifth studio album, = (Equals), released as a promotional single in August 2021. It is a tribute to Australian music promoter Michael Gudinski, who died in March 2021, and Sheeran first performed it at Gudinski's funeral. Sheeran said he finished writing it while going through grief for the first time.

Where to find it

Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music (widely available). An official live performance video, filmed at St Stephen's Church in Hampstead, London, is on Ed Sheeran's YouTube channel.
