What it is

Based on Michael Lewis's book, the film follows Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane, who loses star players before the 2002 season and has little money to replace them. He hires Peter Brand, a Yale economics graduate, to use statistical analysis to find undervalued players, against resistance from scouts and manager Art Howe.
