Neal Brennan: Blocks
He built his whole inner critic out of blocks, then took it apart in front of everyone. 🧱
Who it's for
Brennan moves physical blocks around the stage, each standing for a piece of what makes him feel something is wrong with him: his father, his relationships, his standing among other comedians, his own habits.
Feelings it meets
What it is
Neal Brennan's 2022 Netflix special, directed by Derek DelGaudio, filmed at the Belasco in Los Angeles, and developed from his stage show Unacceptable. Colourful blocks on the stage backdrop serve as a recurring device that gradually comes together as he works through his alcoholic father, failed relationships, his dog, liberal discourse, and where he stands in the comedy world.
