A roughly six-minute TED Talks Education talk from April 2013 by psychologist Angela Lee Duckworth. She describes leaving management consulting to teach maths to seventh graders in New York and noticing that IQ alone did not separate stronger and weaker students. She then presents her research on 'grit', passion and perseverance for long-term goals, as a predictor of achievement.
