Who it's for

Verne's novel is a ticking-clock adventure: every chapter is a new country, a new obstacle and a new deadline, which makes it a reliable source of momentum and forward-leaning excitement.

What it is

In 1872 the precise, unflappable Londoner Phileas Fogg bets £20,000 at the Reform Club that he can circle the globe in eighty days. He sets off that evening with his new French valet, Passepartout, by steamer and rail, pursued by Detective Fix, who wrongly believes Fogg is a bank robber. Along the way they rescue Aouda, a young Indian widow, and race against missed connections and storms.
