Written by Juan Gabriel and widely known as a lament for his mother, 'Amor eterno' expresses undying love for someone who has died.
"Amor eterno" is an elegiac song written by Juan Gabriel, who said it was inspired by his mother's death in 1974, news he received while on tour in Acapulco. Rocío Dúrcal first recorded it in 1984 on the album Canta a Juan Gabriel Volumen 6, and it is probably her best-known song.
