Jim Croce's gentle song wishes for a way to hold onto time and share it with someone he loves.
"Time in a Bottle" is a love ballad by Jim Croce from his 1972 album You Don't Mess Around with Jim. Croce wrote the lyrics after his wife told him she was pregnant. After Croce died in a plane crash in September 1973, radio play of the song grew and it was released as a single, becoming his second and final U.S. number one in January 1974.
