What it is

"Thousands Are Sailing" is a song by the Pogues, written by guitarist Philip Chevron, from their 1988 album If I Should Fall from Grace with God. It deals with the many people who emigrated from Ireland during the economic slump of the 1980s and the alienation of living somewhere that does not feel like home. Chevron drew a parallel with mass emigration during the Great Famine of the mid-1800s.
