What it is

"Mothers of the Disappeared" is the closing track on U2's 1987 album The Joshua Tree. Bono wrote it after learning about Argentina's Madres de Plaza de Mayo, whose children were forcibly disappeared under the dictatorship, during the 1986 Conspiracy of Hope tour for Amnesty International, and after meeting members of COMADRES, a Salvadoran group of mothers of the disappeared.
