What it is

"wish you were gay" is the fourth single from Billie Eilish's debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, released in March 2019. Eilish wrote it about a boy she had a crush on who did not return her interest, wishing there were a reason for his rejection other than simply not liking her; she later called it a selfish, goofy joke.
