For the sadness that's moved in and unpacked 🖤
Matt Berninger sings about sorrow as something that has settled in for good, almost like a companion.
"Sorrow" is a short, four-chord song from The National's 2010 album High Violet about a person's relationship with their own sadness. Matt Berninger described it as being about how many people have an attached, needy bond with their sadness. In 2013 the band played it repeatedly for six hours at MoMA PS1 in New York as A Lot of Sorrow, a performance piece by artist Ragnar Kjartansson.
