What it is

"His Eye Is on the Sparrow" is a gospel hymn with lyrics by Civilla D. Martin and music by Charles H. Gabriel, published in 1905, drawing on Psalm 32:8 and on Matthew's passages about God's care for sparrows and for people. Martin said she was also inspired by a couple she met in Elmira, New York, who stayed cheerful in their faith despite long illness.
