What it is

"If I Were a Boy" is a 2008 ballad by Beyoncé, released as a lead single from I Am... Sasha Fierce. BC Jean and Toby Gad wrote it, and Jean drew on the painful end of one of her own relationships, imagining that as a man she could act without regret. The song uses a gender-swap thought experiment to examine misunderstandings between men and women and to critique male behavior in relationships.
