Merchant sings from the point of view of a child with a disability who defies those who doubted her.
"Wonder" is a 1995 song by Natalie Merchant and the second single from her solo album Tigerlily. Merchant said in a BBC interview that it is about a child born with a congenital condition, based on twins she knew personally. The song later inspired R. J. Palacio's 2012 novel Wonder and plays over the end credits of the 2017 film adaptation.
