What it is
"I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" is from My Chemical Romance's second studio album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004) and was released as its lead single. Gerard Way called it "a cry for help trapped in a pop song" and said the chorus reached listeners who were tired of pretending to be fine. The Marc Webb-directed video is styled as a movie trailer, with the band as outsiders at a high school.
