What it is
"The Final Countdown" is the title track and lead single from Swedish rock band Europe's 1986 album, written by vocalist Joey Tempest around a keyboard riff he had composed years earlier. Inspired by David Bowie's "Space Oddity," the lyrics imagine a journey into space toward Venus, leaving Earth behind, in a tone Tempest described as both apocalyptic and optimistic.
