Brian Eno made an album for airports so nervous travellers had somewhere to put their minds. Your brain is allowed a waiting room too. ✈️
Eno built these pieces from tape loops of different lengths that drift in and out of alignment, so nothing ever resolves or demands attention, and there are no hooks, beats or lyrics to latch onto.
Ambient 1: Music for Airports is a Brian Eno album released by E.G. Records and Polydor, made of four untitled pieces (1/1, 2/1, 1/2, 2/2) built from layered tape loops of different lengths. Eno designed it for airport terminals as an alternative to canned Muzak, with Robert Wyatt on acoustic piano and Christa Fast, Christine Gomez and Inge Zeininger on wordless vocals.
