The toughest men in the room were the first to cry. That's the work. 🖤
Many men were taught that anger is the only acceptable emotion, and this film shows men in a structured group finding the grief and fear underneath it.
The Work is a 2017 documentary directed by Jairus McLeary with co-director Gethin Aldous. It follows a four-day group therapy intensive run by the Inside Circle Foundation at Folsom Prison, where three men from outside join incarcerated men, each paired with inmate guardians. In small circles, participants share emotional pain, with the group guiding one another through emotional release.
