They loved each other and they loved volcanoes, and they never had to choose. What's the fire you'd walk toward?
Awe is one of the few emotions that shrinks self-focused worry, and the Kraffts' footage of lava and eruptions delivers it in abundance.
Fire of Love is a 2022 documentary directed by Sara Dosa, narrated by Miranda July and scored by Nicolas Godin. It tells the story of French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, a married couple who spent two decades filming eruptions up close, and is built largely from their own rare archival footage. The film covers their work up to their deaths on a 1991 expedition to Mount Unzen.
