Written and directed by Alice Wu, the film follows Ellie Chu, a shy, high-achieving Chinese-American student in a small town who helps her widowed father run the local train station and earns money ghostwriting classmates' essays. Football player Paul asks her to write love letters to Aster, a classmate he likes, and Ellie, who has her own feelings for Aster, becomes entangled in the deception while coaching Paul.
