What it is
Set in Oxford in the 1950s, Shadowlands follows the reserved academic and writer C. S. Lewis at Magdalen College. He meets Joy Davidman Gresham, an outspoken American poet visiting England with her young son Douglas. Their formal acquaintance slowly grows into a deep bond, and when Joy is diagnosed with cancer they marry. Her illness tests Lewis's Christian faith as he faces losing her.
