Manchester by the Sea
Not every story ends with closure. Lee couldn't beat it, and he still found a way to love his nephew. That counts. 🌊 #ManchesterByTheSea
Who it's for
Manchester by the Sea refuses the usual arc where grief resolves into closure, and that honesty is its value.
Feelings it meets
What it is
Kenneth Lonergan's film follows Lee Chandler, a withdrawn janitor in Quincy, Massachusetts, whose brother Joe dies and names him guardian of his teenage nephew Patrick in Manchester-by-the-Sea. Returning to the town forces Lee to face his past, and flashbacks gradually reveal a past family tragedy that ended his marriage.
