Felt like a heart attack. Wasn't. Almost a third of us will have a panic attack at least once, and it can be understood.
Much of the terror of panic comes from not knowing what is happening, and the lesson opens by naming exactly that fear: people often mistake a panic attack for a heart attack, stroke or other emergency.
An animated TED-Ed lesson by Cindy J. Aaronson, released in October 2020, narrated by Bethany Cutmore-Scott and directed by AIM Creative Studios. It describes how panic attacks are often mistaken for serious medical emergencies and notes that roughly a third of people will have at least one in their lifetime.
