The whole novella is Juan Pablo Castel's confession, told from inside his reasoning, and readers watch his logic build step by step from a moment of recognition to paranoid jealousy and violence.
Written as a confession from his jail cell, this short Argentine novel is narrated by Juan Pablo Castel, a Buenos Aires painter who has killed María Iribarne. He recounts how he became obsessed with her after she noticed a detail in one of his paintings at an exhibition, and how his doubts, jealousy and suspicion escalated even though she was married.
