What it is
DreamWorks' 2001 animated film directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, loosely based on William Steig's 1990 picture book Shrek!. Shrek, an ogre who lives alone in his swamp, finds it overrun by fairy-tale creatures exiled by Lord Farquaad, and agrees to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded castle so Farquaad will move them.
