What it is
"Otherside" is a 2009 track by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. It is a cautionary song about codeine-laced syrup in which Macklemore draws on his own experience with substance use, pushing back on the idea that the drug fuels creativity and pointing to the people it has harmed. The track samples the guitar riff of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' song of the same name, itself about Anthony Kiedis's addiction.
