What it is

"Fight the Power" is a Public Enemy song written after Spike Lee asked the group for a song for Do the Right Thing, his film about racial tension in a Brooklyn neighborhood, where it recurs throughout. It calls on listeners to resist an abusive power structure and demands fair treatment and self-reliance. The Bomb Squad built the track from many layered samples, including James Brown.
