Jarvis Cocker skewers a wealthy student who wants to experience being "common", treating poverty as glamorous.
"Common People" is the lead single from Pulp's album Different Class. In it, the narrator mocks a privileged woman who sees living among working-class people as glamorous, and points out that she can always fall back on her family's money. Frontman Jarvis Cocker based it on a woman he met while studying at Central Saint Martins in London, and has said he embellished the story.
