What it is

"Teach Your Children" was written by Graham Nash in 1968, while he was still in the Hollies, and was released on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's 1970 album Déjà Vu; the single reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nash linked the song's message to Diane Arbus's 1962 photograph of a child holding a toy hand grenade, which led him to think about what children are taught.
