Often mistaken for a love song, Sting's lyric is a sinister portrait of someone who watches an ex's every move.
"Every Breath You Take" is a 1983 song by the Police, written by Sting, from the band's fifth and final studio album, Synchronicity. Although its melody sounds like a gentle love song, it is narrated by a possessive lover who watches a partner's every move, and Sting has described the lyrics as sinister, written partly with surveillance, control and the idea of Big Brother in mind.
