a love letter to the child you let go 💚

Who it's for

Widely known as Joni Mitchell's song to the daughter she placed for adoption, it wishes the child a happy life while holding the sorrow of separation.

What it is

"Little Green" is a folk song by Joni Mitchell, the third track on her 1971 album Blue. She wrote it in 1966, a year after signing adoption papers for her daughter, while she was a struggling folk singer in Toronto. Unlike many songs on the album, it is about her daughter rather than a romance. The daughter's existence became public in 1993, and the two were reunited in 1997.
