What it is
"Time to Pretend" is a song by MGMT that the band wrote during their senior year of college. It was first recorded in 2005 for the Time to Pretend EP and then re-recorded for their debut album Oracular Spectacular (2007), and was released as the album's lead single in March 2008. The band has described the song as being about a fantasy rock-star life.
