Smiling on the outside, a different story inside 🎭
This classic, originally by The Platters, is about someone pretending to be fine and playing a part to hide loneliness after losing love.
"The Great Pretender" was written by Buck Ram and first released by The Platters in 1955. It describes a man who copes with heartbreak by denying it, keeping up a smiling front to hide his loneliness. Freddie Mercury released a cover as a solo single on February 23, 1987, which reached No. 4 in the UK; its video shows Mercury parodying his own Queen-era personas.
