Clocking in to a job that doesn't deserve you ⌨️
Written for the film about office workers fighting a sexist boss, the song captures the grind and unfairness of dead-end work.
"9 to 5" was written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1980 for the comedy film 9 to 5, her film debut, in which she co-starred with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. It opens her album 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs and is about the life of a working woman. Its title, like the film's, comes from 9to5, an organization founded in 1973 to pursue fair pay and equal treatment for women at work.
