What it is
"We Are Family" is a 1979 song by the sibling vocal group Sister Sledge, written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic. Its chorus reflects the group being four sisters in one family. It became their signature song and a widely used expression of solidarity, including as the theme of the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates during their World Series championship season.
