EndeavorRx

Game · 2020 · Developed by Akili Interactive (building on UCSF NeuroRacer research by Adam Gazzaley; Akili acquired by Virtual Therapeutics in 2024) · distributed by prescription

The first video game the FDA ever authorised as a treatment. Not for downloading on a whim: for talking to your kid's doctor about. 🚀

Who it's for

EndeavorRx is a medical device, not a consumer game: in June 2020 it became the first game-based treatment authorised by the FDA, for children aged 8–12 with ADHD, and access was later extended to teens (the official site lists ages 8–17).

What it is

EndeavorRx is a prescription digital therapeutic developed by Akili Interactive, based on the NeuroRacer prototype studied at UCSF, and authorised by the FDA in June 2020 for children aged 8–12 with ADHD. The player flies a spaceship through levels while catching collectibles, and the game adjusts its demands based on performance to train multitasking and ignoring distractions.

Where to find it

Prescription only via a clinician; delivered on iOS and Android. The official site listed $99 per 30-day prescription (candidate record); check current availability and pricing after the 2024 acquisit.
