No degree, no permission, just patience and a notebook. She changed what we know about ourselves.
Jane Goodall arrived at Gombe in her mid-twenties without a degree, and the film shows how patience and close attention earned her discoveries that reshaped science.
Brett Morgen's documentary about primatologist Jane Goodall, built from footage by filmmaker Hugo van Lawick that was rediscovered in 2014 and scored by Philip Glass. Beginning in 1957, when Louis Leakey sent the young, untrained Goodall to study chimpanzees at what is now Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania, it traces her observations of tool use, initially dismissed by scientists.
