Listen to this when
New dawn, new day, new you. You made it. 🌅 #FeelingGood
The recording opens with Simone's voice almost alone, then lets a full band arrive with force, so the listener physically hears a transition from stillness to power.
"Feeling Good" was written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the 1964 stage musical The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd, where it is sung by a character at a moment of triumph and was described as a song of emancipation. Nina Simone recorded it in January 1965 for her album I Put a Spell on You, with Hal Mooney arranging and producing.
