Library / Living With Mental Illness
Watch this when
Adam's voices didn't disappear. He learned to live alongside them and still went after love, school and the kitchen. 🍳
Adam's schizophrenia is named, and the film presents his hallucinations as characters, a hippie, a crude best friend and a bodyguard, plus a dark, threatening voice, which gives viewers an unusual, non-frightening way to picture psychosis from the inside.
Based on Julia Walton's novel, Thor Freudenthal's film follows Adam, a high school senior who dreams of becoming a chef and is diagnosed with schizophrenia after a psychotic break. His hallucinations appear as recurring figures, a New Age hippie, a crude best friend and an overprotective bodyguard, along with a dark, threatening voice.
