Some grief doesn't get smaller. It gets carried, and told, together.

Who it's for

Bereaved parents often feel others expect grief to have an end point; hearing a couple say the missing lasts a lifetime validates that long grief is not failure to cope.

Feelings it meets

What it is

An animated short from StoryCorps' September 11th Initiative, directed by Richard O'Connor with animation by Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. In it, John and Elaine Leinung remember their son Paul, who was killed at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. They recall his close bond with his younger sister Kristen, and Elaine describes the morning he left for work.
