'Your children are not your children.' Gibran said it in 1923 and parents are still arguing with him about it.
Each short section answers a single question (on love, marriage, children, pain, death and more) in rhythmic, aphoristic language, so a reader can open it anywhere and take in one idea at a time.
The Prophet is a 1923 book of prose poetry by Kahlil Gibran, first published by Alfred A. Knopf with Gibran's own artwork. The frame story follows the prophet Almustafa, who has lived for 12 years in the city of Orphalese; as a ship arrives to take him home, the townspeople gather and ask him to share his wisdom before he leaves.
Public domain in the US (published in English in 1923); free on Project Gutenberg. Also widely in print, in libraries and as an audiobook.
