Who it's for

Over one long day the Tyrones circle Mary's return to morphine, the men's drinking and Edmund's illness, repeating accusations and apologies until the night.

What it is

Eugene O'Neill's autobiographical four-act play, written in 1939–41, was published and first staged in 1956, after his death. It takes place over a single day in August 1912 at the Tyrone family's summer home in Connecticut.

Where to find it

In print (Yale University Press), in libraries (Libby/Hoopla); audio recordings of the play exist. Not public domain. Filmed as a 1962 feature and in later stage recordings.
